Dana meets Brownie

A planned walk to Botanic Gardens was unfortunately put off because of bad weather. As I was still keen to meet up with Patrick and his family, I brought Dana to Patrick's place. Patrick has a dog Brownie, a Sheltie-Jap Spitz breed, who is a ultra-friendly and energetic girl.

As expected, there was some friction between the dogs primarily because Dana is wary of strangers (either man or canine); I think Dana bared her teeth at Brownie two times. But I think with time, they can be friends.

Patrick's mother was very supportive of the 22 Sep Mooncake gathering and suggested we have a potluck dinner. I think this is a good suggestion and we will discuss what each family can bring for the gathering towards the date. But we will look forward to Sinclair baking us a world-class cake to enjoy.

Mooncake Festival Celebration

Hi All

Patrick (Weipeng) and I are proposing to have a combined Mid-Autumn aka Mooncake Festival this year. I have consulted the calendar and the actual full-moon day is on 25 Sep 07. Unfortunately, that is on a Tuesday so to gather on a weekday is quite unlikely. As such, I am suggesting to hold our gathering on Saturday, 22 Sep 07. I am still debating whether to have dinner together as that could be quite difficult to prepare. If dinner is not part of the program, we will probably meet at say 8pm (after dinner taken individually) at my place. I will plan some programs and makan (eat mooncakes!). Cousin Sinclair is a pattisier (pastry chef) at Ritz Carlton so I will probably ask him to make a cake.

So Patrick, could you please sound out your folks and gang whilst I will do so from my end for my side. Let's target to finalise the date of the gathering by end of this week if possible. If you are joining us for the Botanic Garden walk this weekend, we can discuss further.

So in summary

3rd row: wan li (cousin), hung yuen (uncle - husband of ah lien), kwok yuen (father), ricardo (family friend), patrick (me), wei hao (cousin), tai yuen (uncle - husband of joanne), wan wei (cousin)

Singapore's 42nd National Day

My parents, Ben and his wife and of course Snowy gathered at my place to watch the National Day Parade on TV. As my flat was near (5km radius?), we rushed from in front of the TV to the window to watch the planes fly past, from the first two F16s, to the Chinook which dropped the naval divers into the waters of Marina Bay and lastly the two Apaches.

At about 7.30pm, we trooped down to a nearby bridge, where soon after, a crowd soon formed to watch the fireworks. Cars also stopped by including a taxi. At around 8.15pm, the first of the fireworks illuminated the Singapore skyline accentuating the spirit of celebration. And as sudden as it started, the show ended. The taxi drove off, the crowds dispersed, each back to their families and life.
