Visited my parents for lunch today and asked for old photos which mum might have. She brought out this old album which I recalled flipping through in my childhood days whenever I missed my mum. For a start, I have scanned their wedding photo.
This photo shows my parents with my paternal grandfather 陈庆成 and an unidentified lady (need to check with my dad). My dad was born in Hainan, China and travelled from Hainan Island as a child with his father to Singapore. I have fleeting but fond memories of my paternal grandfather. Fleeting because he did not stay with us until when he was diagnosed with illness and also because he passed away when he was around 60 years old. Fond because he doted on us grandsons and would spare no expense to buy whichever toys we wanted at Emporium then. Word from my mum has it that my grandfather misheard over the telephone that my mum had given birth to a daughter as her first-born (the three of us siblings are all males). He was unhappy and did not visit the new-born. Once he knew that the baby was a boy, he rushed to hospital.
